Traditionally red packets (envelopes) or “Lai Si” with $$ inside 🙂 are handed out to younger generation by their parents, grand parents, relatives and friends during Chinese New Year. They are also popular gifts for weddings and birthdays. We also get red packets occasionally at asian wedding 🙂
