Beach family photo sessions are always a lot of fun when it comes around to the summer months of the year. What better way to celebrate an Aussie Christmas than on the beach?
The family in this Balmoral Beach family photo session is a previous client of mine. I was lucky enough to capture their beautiful wedding six years ago in May 2014, and loved catching up with them and meeting their two boys for some lifestyle portraiture this time around! It’s always a joy seeing old clients of mine – especially when they’ve started families of their own.
We shot the session in Middle Harbour at Balmoral Beach, a favourite destination for North Shore residents. It’s only a few kilometers from Sydney’s CBD, and a great spot for a family day out, or a Christmas family photo session as the festive season comes up. I’m sure we can all agree that it’s always refreshing to spend some time outdoors, and I can imagine that this summer we’ll see a lot more people in and around our Sydney beaches than previous years. My favourite trick for shooting these beach photo sessions is to head out bright and early to catch the morning light and avoid a harsh afternoon glare – and of course, the heat! It’s also the best way to avoid crowds of people.

Personally, I love doing family sessions around this time of the year because I can see how much my kids have grown over the past year and it’s nice to reflect back on all the fun times you’ve shared, and look forward to some more new experiences next year.
